Legendary NFL Coach & Broadcaster John Madden Dead At Age 85

The NFL lost an all time legend with the news that John Madden unexpectedly passed away Tuesday morning. The Hall of Fame coach, broadcaster and video game creator was 85 years old.

Madden is one the most influential people in NFL history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 after a very successful career as head coach of the Raiders. Madden also had a legendary 30-year broadcasting career that included 11 Super Bowls as a color analyst along with legendary broadcaster Pat Summerall. The two became household names, and called eight Super Bowls together.

The NFL released the following statement moments ago…

“On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to Virginia, Mike, Joe and their families,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. “We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Nobody loved football more than Coach. He was football. He was an incredible sounding board to me and so many others. There will never be another John Madden, and we will forever be indebted to him for all he did to make football and the NFL what it is today.”

Memorial service information will be announced when available.
