AZ Cardinals to Release Adrian Peterson
A couple of days away from receiving a $750,000 roster bonus, Adrian Peterson is expected to be released, according to an NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport report. The Arizona Cardinals will deny the bonus and cut Peterson after he rushed for 448 yards and two TDs in six games for them this past season.
The impending move is hardly a surprise with starting RB David Johnson expected to make a full recovery from wrist surgery in time for the 2018 season. Peterson’s release had a $0 cap hit so it’s an easy business decision and the door will likely be open for a possible return if Peterson is not spiteful of the move and wants to return as a backup.
Cardinals expected to release RB Adrian Peterson today, per source. Peterson has a $750,000 bonus due on the third day of league year, Friday, so Arizona saves money. But Peterson still could return to Arizona later, per source.

Peterson has had a fantastic career and showed flashes this past season that he still has the skills to be a successful running back and will probably have a few teams inquiring about his services. His remaining career will most likely be in the backup variety, but he may get the chance to prove that he still is a top running back and will be interesting to see where he ends up.
